Readers’ Club of the Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 Calicut was formally inaugurated by eminent science writer Sh. Jeevan Job Thomas. He had addressed the gathering of readers’ club members at Vidyalaya seminar hall. He inspired the students to read more and apply creativity in the whole walks of life. He narrated many inspiring stories and scientifically explained facts behind the success of great men like Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin. Principal Sh. P.K Chandran presided over the function. Librarian and Readers’ Club in-Charge Sh. Muhammed Shafi V , Ms. Nalini, Ms. Devi, and Ms. Leelavathy also spoke in the function.
Ms. Anjitha Chandra T from class IX D selected as the ‘best reader of the month’ June 2017. She visited Vidyalaya library frequently, read number of books, written good book reviews and involved actively in various library activities. Mrs. Sreelekha Sreekumar, Vice Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 Calicut presented award to Ms. Anjitha during morning assembly.
The students and staff members of the Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 Calicut dropped all their routine works and spent first period on 19th June 2017 for reading. It was the programme organised by the Readers’ Club of the Vidyalaya in-connection with the reading day. The school community enjoyed the joy of silent reading. It’s an initiative to make extra reading as a habit among the school community.

There will be a mass reading programme called D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read) in our Vidayalaya on 19th June 2017, Monday from 8:50 AM to 9:30 AM in connection with reading day to honour the contributions of Sh. P.N Panicker, Father of the library movement in Kerala.. It’s an initiative to encourage the school community to make extra reading as a habit. All the staffs and students of the Vidyalaya will drop all their routine works and read any books (issued from the library/personal) or magazines during 8:50 AM to 9:30 AM.
