Common Entrance Examination for admission to Regional Institutes of Education

The regional Institutes of Education (RIE) at Mysore, Ajmer, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal and Shillong (under NCERT) will be conducting their Common Entrance Examination for admission to B.Sc., B.Ed, BA-B.Ed (four year integrated), M.Sc-Ed (six year integrated), B.ED (two years), M,Ed (two years), B.Ed-M.Ed (three year integrated) programmes.

Date of Entrance Examination: June 10, 2018

Application Mode: Online registration

Exam Fee: General/OBC students- Rs 800; for SC/ST/PH candidates-Rs 400

Deadline: May 9, till 6 PM

Common Entrance Test for BPT, BOT & BPO

The national level Common Entrance Test will be conducted for admission to bachelor’s programmes in Physiotherapy (BPT), occuppational therapy (BOT) and prosthetics and orthotics (BPO) offered by National Institute for Loco-motor Disabilities (NILD), Kolkata, SVNIRTAR, Cuttak, and NIEPMD, Chennai.

Course duration: 4 years

Exam Centres: Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Chennai, Madurai, Secunderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Guwahati, Srinagar and Kolkata.

Eligibility: Born between 1st January, 1998 and 31st December, 2001. Five year relaxation for SC/ST/PH candidates. Minimum 50% aggregate in plus two/equivalent board exam for PCM/B for general/OBC. Minimum 40% aggregate for SC/ST/PH candidates.

Admissions at Chennai Mathematical Institute

Chennai Mathematical Institute invited applications for it’s various courses that start from August 2018.

Admissions for August, 2018

  • Applications for August, 2018 are open. Look up the Application Procedure for details on how to apply. The last date for completing the application process is Saturday, April 7, 2018.
  • For CMI’s PhD programmes, you can also qualify for the interview by writing national level exams such as JEST and NBHM. Specific details are give below, at the bottom of this page.
  • For details about fee structure and hostel accommodation, please download the Information Brochure.
  • Here is the schedule for applications for the session starting in August, 2018 (academic year 2018–2019).

    • Last date of issue of paper applications : Friday, 6 April, 2018

Academic programmes offered at CMI

Admission will be made to the following programmes in 2018-19.

Note: There is a common entrance examination for both the B.Sc. (Hons.) programmes. You need not select your course at the time of applying. The choice can be made after admission.

Eligibility for Admission

  • B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics and Computer Science:    12th standard or equivalent.
  • B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics and Physics:    12th standard or equivalent.
  • M.Sc. in Mathematics:    Undergraduate degree (BA, BSc, BE, BTech, …) with a strong background in mathematics.
  • M.Sc. in Computer Science:    Undergraduate degree (BA, BSc, BE, BTech, …) with a strong background in computer science.
  • M.Sc. in Data Science:    Undergraduate degree (BA, BSc, BE, BTech, …) with a background in mathematics/statistics/computer science.
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics:    B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc.(Math)/M.Sc.(Math).
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science:    B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc.(C.S.)/M.C.A.
  • Ph.D. in Physics:    B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc.(Physics)/M.Sc.(Physics).

How to Apply

When admissions are open, you may apply online or request a printed application form, either by post or in person.

For all the programmes, applicants will have to take an entrance examination. The entrance examinations for 2018 will take place on Tuesday, 15 May 2018 at the following cities: Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Indore, Kanpur, Kolkata, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Ranchi, Shillong, Silchar, Srinagar and Trivandrum.

Selection for all Ph.D. programmes will involve an interview at Chennai. For all other programmes, interviews will be at the discretion of the Admissions Committee—the Committee may call shortlisted candidates for an interview depending on their prior academic record.

Qualify for PhD Mathematics via NBHM

Candidates applying to the PhD programme in Mathematics at CMI for the academic year starting August 2018 can qualify for the interview without writing the CMI entrance examination if they are been awarded the NBHM PhD Fellowship.

If you wish to apply to the PhD programme in Mathematics at CMI through this channel, you should fill out the CMI application form in full detail and pay the application fee. After you fill out the form, send an email to phdmath2018@cmi.ac.in attaching a scanned copy of your NBHM scorecard along with your BSc and MSc academic transcripts.

If you qualify directly for the interview based on your performance in these exams, you will receive a notification from the Admissions Committee. If you do not hear from us, you must write the CMI entrance examination in order to qualify.

Qualify for PhD Computer Science via JEST-2018

Candidates applying to the PhD programme in Computer Science at CMI for the academic year starting August 2018 can qualify for the interview on the basis of their performance in the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2018) in Theoretical Computer Science, without writing the CMI entrance examination.

If you have written JEST-2018 and wish to apply to the PhD programme in Computer Science at CMI, you should fill out the CMI application form in full detail and pay the application fee. After you fill out the form, send an email to phdcs2018@cmi.ac.in to inform us that you have also written JEST.

If you qualify directly for the interview based on your performance in JEST-2018, You will receive a notification from the Admissions Committee. If you do not hear from us, you must write the CMI entrance examination in order to qualify.

Qualify for PhD Physics via JEST-2018

Candidates applying to the PhD programme in Physics at CMI for the academic year starting August 2018 can qualify for the interview on the basis of their performance in the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2018) in Physics without writing the CMI entrance examination. Only candidates within the top 300 ranks will qualify through this category.

If you wish to apply to the PhD programme in Physics at CMI through this channel, you should fill out the CMI application form in full detail and pay the application fee. After you fill out the form, send an email to phdphy2018@cmi.ac.in attaching a scanned copy of your JEST scorecard.

If you qualify directly for the interview based on your performance in these exams, you will receive a notification from the Admissions Committee. If you do not hear from us, you must write the CMI entrance examination in order to qualify.
